Hooray 100!

Mon Apr 23, 2007, 9:44 AM
Thanks to everyone who has commented on my work and taken the time to visit my page!
Back to school tomorrow... yay... and I'll be finding out if my exam marks have changed which will determine exactly how much work I have to do for my final exams. What a fun day I'm going to have! On the bright side I've been creating loads of stuff lately and I've had all my offers through for Uni and I'm off to the Courtauld in London to study History of Art in September! Need AAB though so no pressure at all!
Been spending waay too much time in Camden to be healthy! It's a great place though, loads of inspiration and really fun people - I recommend it to anyone who wants to be inspired or who wants to buy funky clothes in the Market!
Hmmm, I feel like painting an Elk in a tree...

There's no Hell and no Hiroshima. Chernobyl was a cover-up. The world is really all in love.
:iconmichael4250:
I looked again. You have skill but no vision. Why would you waste our time with anything but your best?
What would you offer to a discerning audience? (me)
:iconwarleywoo:
Thank you for telling me I have skill but to be honest, telling an artist they have no vision is incredibly insulting. Surely anything that comes from within and that is expressed in art form has a form of vision - something provided the spark of inspiration and that alone should be praised. The creative process is a journey. If every single piece of art on this site must have pseudo "vision" just for the sake of it then there would be plenty of people who would never submit anything and would not gain from encouraging thoughts.
No artist would ever be able to produce perfect work every time they pick up a pencil, and every piece ever created is to be treasured and valued as part of the journey of an artist. If all anyone ever appreciated was the "best" then how would we progress? We must develop ideas that we are pleased with at first but they ultimately evolve into something better. Surely those original works have as much value as without them you would never have your "best". I am 17 and I am still developing, so everything on my journey is worthy to be on a page that shows my capabilities. Pieces in galleries do not have to work together - individual works have their own merit and that is what people can pick up on if they choose to. I have always believed in creating for the sake of creating and anything an artist does, whether it be an original piece plucked from the depths of our imagination or a simple copy, is precious because it shows how we work and what makes us tick. The majority of my work is controlled by the examination system and what you need to realise is that not everyone can dedicate all their creative energy to one series of works. The point is that everyone can use deviantART, whether they submit a doodle from a notebook or a beautiful painting that took them weeks to complete. If people can find a piece of work that I create touching, or even if they just like the technique, then I am quite content - I do not set out to impress anyone or jade anyones opinion of a piece with my comments. As a student I realise how important it is to understand about technique so that is why I explain it - the interpretation is up to the individual. We can all look at a famous work and interpret it in different ways, but none of them would be wrong.
That was a very long reply but you wanted an explanation of what I think. Art is in everything, even if it isn't our best. It is created to evoke emotion - any emotion. I felt a warmth creating many of my pieces, some of them I just like for the technical quality. This site is for anyone; professional artists or merely people like me, who enjoy creating and hope to help others in their journeys, and even learn things myself.
I apologise for seeming quite short in tone with my reply but these thoughts are what came to mind in order to give you an answer.
I hope that you can appreciate that anyone who has the drive to create and who produces something they are proud of should be praised, no matter what can be interpreted as an individual

"You know the black bits in bananas... are they tarantula's eggs?"
:iconmichael4250:
Well…shut my mouth.
And I also hope you will pardon me.
After looking at hundreds of pages of poorly executed and unambitious craft…yours was the page I happened to respond to (largely because of the noteworthy skill level).
I was offended by the uniformity and meaninglessness of the online responses in deviantART: Nice. Great stuff. Good work. Great colors. Cool.
Not a negative word spoken here…like the politically correct clucking of mindless chickens, saying everything is good when it’s not.

Today, an artist is defined by much of contemporary culture as one who makes art. And art is defined as something made by an artist.
You can see where that leaves us…both terms become meaningless.
It is hard to think clearly about something when the language used in that thought is unclear or meaningless.

Vision, as I used it in my query, designates a uniqueness of perception or execution. That uniqueness is important…because everyone’s vision is the same, except when it’s not.

Your vision is the same as your neighbor’s…except when it’s not.
After seeing 10,000 drawings of a human face, as I have, the commonality of human vision becomes quite apparent. So what sets yours apart? What sets mine apart?
Good art results in intimacy between the maker and the viewer.
Esthetic intimacy.
Wow, you can see that too? Let’s form a religion!

If you make something wonderful, that wonderfulness bridges the gap between people. A shared esthetic moment is a particular kind of intimacy, but it doesn’t exist without the esthetic experience. Without that, it’s just information. No better or worse than any other information.
There is no bad information.

But there is bad art.
(The idea that there is no bad art is a fiction of marketers.)
Most art is bad in that it does not achieve its intent, or that its intent is unrewardingly modest. Therefore, no esthetic experience and no intimacy.

What makes your work wonderful?
Wonderful…is what takes your work out of the realm of the mind and into the realm of the soul.

Anyway, thank you for telling me your age. It did rather put things in perspective. I apologize for indulging myself at your expense.
Michael
:iconmichael4250:
Thanks for the response...But who are you?
I looked at your page. Who are you? You are lucid in the language of visual fabrication and presentation...but the intimacyt that comes from our endeavor is...elusive.
Why is your wonderful wonderful?
How are you using deviantART that I have to ask these questions?

Optimistic Michael
